A “sittning” is a university tradition in Finland. Students dress up and congregate around long tables to eat, drink, and sing drinking songs together. The meals tend to be cheap, the alcohol plentiful, and the atmosphere loud and merry. This yuletide sittning was organized by, and for, a group of my friends. The “Sittning Committee” collected drinking songs from all participants.
They asked me to create a little printed leaflet to be given out to each guest; a cheap songbook of sorts, which would also serve as a memento of the evening. The bubbles inside the leaflet indicate melodies, since most lyrics are set to famous songs. The cover reflects the title of our group chat. It used to include several emojis, and the illustrations are my reinterpretations of those:
