These patterns were created for PatternLab, a yearly surface and textile design project at my university, and my minor. Some of the patterns I made are presented below. Each pattern has its own narrative; many are inspired by people and events from my life. Still, they fit the moodboards for the three collections, which all PatternLab designers contributed to, and create a cohesive whole.
The first collection, “Inherited Inspiration”, is a story of three generations—vintage, retro, contemporary—and their interplay. Together, they create a colorful, whimsical, diverse, and optimistic set of patterns. Landscapes modified by natural elements and human-created have inspired the second collection, “No-Man’s Land”. The color palette is made up of shades found through natural dye methods. Animal and human characters are central to the dream-like adventure that is “Peculiar Memories”. This third collection is characterized by bright colors and a hand-drawn style.
My key skills within pattern design are making harmonious colorways and creating beautifully flowing repeats even at small sizes. I enjoy experimenting with different mediums. Hand-made, tablet-drawn, and vector-illustrated patterns are all included.
